Penis Surgery

Almost all men experience anxiety about the size or appearance of their penis at some time. While many men get over this anxiety, some of them fail to do so. Any kind of inferiority complex may adversely affect his sexual experience and socializing skills. There are two groups of penis size and appearance. Some men have short, fat penises while others have long, flaccid looking penises. One must keep in mind that both types are absolutely normal, yet different from each other. Obesity is one of the main reasons why many men perceive their penis small in size. Very obese men cannot see their penis at all and hence, believe that they have a tiny penis. Because of the optical illusion, men looking down at their penis consider theirs as small in as compared to while looking straight at their penis in a mirror. Neatly trimmed pubic hair may help to look penis bigger and better in size. Size of a flaccid penis may vary considerably, which may range anywhere between 5 cm to 10 cm when not in erect position. One must keep in mind that the size of a flaccid penis has nothing to do with the size of an erect penis.

Following are the sizes of a penis under various circumstances as suggested by various researches:
  • Average unstretched flaccid length is 8.8cm.
  • Average stretched flaccid length is 12.4cm.
Note: Tithe measurements are taken from the pubic skin to the urinary orifice at the tip.

According to the Masters and Johnson report in 1966, the size of an erect penis lies anywhere between 5 to 7 inches. The report also suggested that men with smaller flaccid penis have relatively greater increase in size during erection. The average size of an erect penis is around 5.2 inches. Penis smaller than 4cm in flaccid state and less than 3 inches in erect stage are considered to be abnormally smaller penis and come under the consideration of penis augmentation treatment. Time and again, researches have pointed out that the size of penis is of little to no relevance when it comes to pleasure arousing from sexual intercourse.

Penis Enlargement Treatments
Treatments aimed at increasing penile length or girth can be divided into two groups:
  • non-surgical treatments
  • surgical treatments
Non-Surgical Treatment

Go through any men’s magazine and chances are you will come across some bizarre ads in some corner of the ad page, which talks about penis lengthening techniques. Here are some of those treatment methods for those seeking longer penis:

  • Vacuum 'developers'
  • Weights to attach to the penis to stretch it
  • Magnetic or electrical devices to stimulate penis growth
  • 'Hormone' therapy, sometimes containing testosterone or related sex hormones (steroids)
  • Remedies that contain assorted herbs from around the world

Vacuum devices and weights may yield short term results, since penis itself is elastic in nature, which expands and subsequently contracts on it own over the period of time. Private clinics claiming of surreal penile augmentation are absolutely extravagant as well as misleading. While surgery may have benefitted some patients, it certainly won’t benefit each and every case since a lot of factors are involved in the treatment procedure besides the penis in consideration and the treatment process. Current standards of the non surgical treatment procedures are highly unproven and unreliable in their benefits. In case of failure, the repercussions may be serious and complicated. It is of utmost significance to consult a trusted doctor before undertaking any such kind of treatment procedures.

Surgical Treatment

Penile lengthening:

The most common technique to lengthen the penis is to cut its suspensory ligament and then perform plastic surgery in order to provide additional skin to cover its new length. However, there’s ambiguity in the results, as surgeons have not collected data in a systematic manner. According to the reliable studies, the increase in the suspensor ligament is only as much as 0.5cm in length, while the skin advancement can be seen as long as 1.6cm. Even these results vary from patient to patient as some results have been better while some have been below par.

Increasing Penile Girth (Thickness):

This treatment may be performed either along with the aforementioned lengthening procedure or it can be performed independently as well. This procedure can be performed in the following two ways:

  • Injection of liposuctioned fat, from the abdominal wall or thighs, into the dartos fascia, under the skin of the penile shaft.
  • placing grafts of dermis (a layer of tissue from under the skin surface that is well supplied with blood vessels) and fat from the groin or buttock area within the penile shaft.

The results following injection of liposuctioned fat are not highly encouraging. Up to 90 per cent of the fat can disappear within a year. The Grafts technique seems to do rather better than the former one, but there is no reliable published data that validates for its long term result with reasonable success rate.
